Make a plan around the change in your life
Moving into a first home, combining two households, downsizing or changing a business address can require very different kinds of help. Start with what must happen at each property. You may want the whole home packed, only the fragile pieces prepared, or a few large items delivered after the main move.
Keep the possession dates separate from your preferred moving date until the handovers are confirmed. If a sale and purchase do not line up, discuss a storage stage while there is still time to choose what you will need in between.
Still deciding where to live? The Uxbridge relocation guide covers places to explore, housing questions, schools and household services. This page focuses on the work needed to move your belongings.

Choose the help you actually want
A complete move and a few hours of loading help are different requests. Say whether you need transport as well as labor, who will pack, and whether everything goes to the same destination. For a move from Uxbridge to another state, include the receiving address and any delivery restrictions there from the start.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
For a partial move, identify the items that stay in the home. A clear room-by-room scope helps avoid packing something a seller has agreed to leave or carrying away a piece intended for donation.

Put the business essentials back to work first
For an office, shop or other business, decide which work area needs to reopen first. Separate the equipment, files and stock needed immediately from items that can arrive later. Label the destinations in terms the receiving team will recognize, such as a room number or department.
Check the actual receiving entrance, delivery hours and shared access with the property manager. The address on a storefront may be different from the entrance used for a large delivery. Arrange specialist disconnection or installation before moving equipment that depends on it.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Measure the route beyond the front door
Walk from the possible truck position to the room where the largest piece belongs. A wide front door can still lead to a tight turn, a narrow interior opening or a stair landing where the piece cannot rotate. Check the door in its usable open position, with handles and fixtures accounted for.
Compare the front, side and garage entrances if the property has them. Tell us which route the owner permits, where there are changes of level and whether a shared passage must remain open. Clear photographs of the tight points are useful; measurements help us decide which pieces need closer review.
Outside, identify soft ground, low branches and any buried systems before choosing a vehicle position. Do not assume an attractive lawn can carry a loaded truck. The property owner should identify areas that must stay clear.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Agree a stopping position with room to work
A private driveway may be useful if the owner allows it and the vehicle can enter, stand and leave safely. Check the width, surface, slope and overhead space, then leave room for doors, equipment and the route to the house. A spot that fits a household car may not suit the moving vehicle.
If loading would use a public street or affect through traffic, confirm the arrangement with the responsible local office before the move. Ask about the exact location, vehicle and time; an empty curb does not establish permission.
Uxbridge’s published winter parking rule applies on all roadways from December 1 through April 1, between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., regardless of weather. That overnight rule does not decide where a daytime delivery may load. Check current signs, restrictions and storm instructions for the date.

Decide what will be ready when the crew arrives
Choose full packing or identify the rooms and fragile items you want help with. You can pack ordinary belongings yourself and ask for help with dishes, artwork or other pieces that need closer attention. Keep important documents, medication and the things you need immediately separate from the shipment.
Use manageable cartons for dense contents. Books belong in small book cartons; larger boxes suit lighter belongings. Describe an unusually large or delicate object before the packing day so its preparation can be included in the plan.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
If there is a garage, shed or workshop, include its contents in the scope. Ask about preparation and transport restrictions for fuel-powered equipment, liquids and other items needing special handling before packing them.

Understand what changes the estimate
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
The work at the properties matters as well as the journey between them. A longer carry, several flights of stairs, selected-item packing, extra destinations or storage can change the scope. Give the same description of the job when comparing estimates, and check what each one includes.
Decide which unwanted belongings need a separate collection. Disposal is a distinct task with its own arrangements; the guide’s waste section links the town’s hauler and recycling resources. Agree any removal work before expecting it to happen alongside the move.

Set the sequence and the responsibilities
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Before the date, agree who packs, who provides property access and which rooms will be ready to receive furniture. For a staged move, identify the delivery that has to happen first and the person who can make decisions at each address.
When the crew arrives, walk through the agreed work with the lead. At delivery, confirm room placement and check the remaining tasks before the team leaves. If a key handover or receiving arrangement changes, tell the planner promptly so the next step can be agreed.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

09 /
Prepare for the conditions on your date
For a winter move, arrange clearing of the vehicle position, entrance and full carrying route. Ask who will return if a plow leaves snow across the driveway after the first clearing. Keep traction and lighting in mind at steps and shaded approaches.
Check the winter parking section if any vehicle would remain overnight. Weather changes may affect a planned move; agree how you will communicate and what happens if the property cannot be used safely.
Across our service area, summer and dates around the beginning and end of the month can be busy in our working calendar. Ask about your preferred date early, but choose a plan that fits the actual handover and available help. A general seasonal pattern is not a guarantee about a particular Uxbridge date.
10 /
Keep the first day manageable
Before loading begins, separate the belongings that travel with you and mark anything that stays behind. Keep children and pets away from the working route, and make sure the person with the keys can be reached.
At the new home, decide where the beds and essential furniture should go before every room fills with cartons. Keep a few basics accessible for the first evening: a change of clothes, chargers, food and the household items you cannot do without.
If work on the property is unfinished, identify the rooms that must stay empty. Agree where items can be placed temporarily rather than discovering the problem after they have been unloaded.

Tell us about the move in one place
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
- Addresses and timing: both properties, preferred dates, handover times and any alternative.
- Belongings: an inventory or room-by-room outline, including storage areas and large or delicate pieces.
- Access: the possible vehicle position, carrying distance, stairs, tight turns and property restrictions.
- Help required: packing, unpacking, storage, additional stops or separate removal work.
Send photos where they clarify the route or an item. For an interstate shipment, the federal Protect Your Move resource explains what to check when choosing a mover and reviewing the written arrangements.

Questions before you move
Can you help with only part of an Uxbridge move?
Describe the pieces and the help you need, including whether transport is required. We can review a partial move, selected packing or a staged delivery as a distinct scope.
Does every property need the same size moving truck?
No. The belongings, route and usable access are reviewed together. Describe the property rather than choosing a truck solely from the number of bedrooms.
Does the winter parking ban prohibit all daytime deliveries?
The published standing rule covers overnight hours. Daytime loading still needs a suitable position and compliance with signs, current restrictions and any applicable local instructions.
Are basic protection materials charged separately?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Is unpacking included in delivery?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if my new home is not ready when I leave the old one?
Tell the planner as early as possible. Discuss revised timing or a storage stage and keep the belongings needed during the gap separate.
Can unwanted furniture go on the truck with the rest of the move?
Only if the removal work and its destination have been agreed. Keep unwanted items clearly separate from the belongings being delivered to your new home.
What helps you prepare a useful estimate?
Use the addresses, timing, belongings, access and service list in the estimate section. Note uncertainty rather than leaving out a property or stage that may affect the job.
