Movers in Virginia Beach, VA
Plan your Virginia Beach move around the belongings, the building and a usable loading position. Share both addresses, dates and the work you need so the estimate reflects the complete move.
01 /
Plan around the address and the receiving route
Moving to Virginia Beach can mean an elevated coastal house, a Town Center apartment, a cottage on an older street grid or a home in the rural south. Each starts with a different approach. Before setting the work, connect the inventory with the place the vehicle can actually stand and the route from that position into the home.
The independent City of Virginia Beach has its own departments and school system. A Hampton Roads description does not transfer Norfolk or Chesapeake procedures to your address. The City’s comprehensive plan distinguishes several physical settings; your building, frontage and actual service arrangements supply the details needed for a move.
Share both addresses, the dates you can use each property and any conditions still unresolved. Include the floor, stairs, elevators, driveways, gates and separate storage stops. The Virginia Beach relocation guide connects those property questions with everyday travel, schools and household services.

Choose the work you want included
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
A useful scope identifies what you will prepare yourself and what you want us to handle. Packing an entire household, protecting selected fragile pieces and transporting already packed cartons involve different work and materials. Name the rooms and belongings involved, including outdoor furniture, garage contents and storage away from the home.

Coordinate the shipment with the business
For a business move, separate access, transport and reopening responsibilities. Describe the desks, shelving, equipment, stock and fragile pieces, then identify the areas that must keep operating during preparation. A department-by-department sequence may be more useful than one assumed loading window.
Check the receiving building’s service entrance, loading area, elevator route and permitted hours. Identify the person authorized to confirm a reservation or change the plan. If a proposed operation reaches into public space, ask Permits & Inspections about the actual footprint before relying on the building’s approval.
Technical disconnection, reconnection and testing need their own responsible people. Moving equipment does not establish that installation or commissioning is included. Record the delivery priorities and the point at which the receiving contact can confirm that each area is ready for the next part of the operation.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
04 /
Measure the path beyond the first door
The City’s adopted planning study describes raised beach houses in Sandbridge and a mix of homes, duplexes and small multifamily buildings in Old Beach. Those patterns suggest what to inspect; they do not establish the layout of your property. Photograph the approach, entrance, stairs, landings, turns and the final room for large furniture.
For a raised house, measure the exterior stair route and any turn before the door. Ask whether an elevator exists, whether it is available for the move and what the building allows it to carry. For an apartment, trace the complete service route: a loading entrance may connect to a different lift or corridor from the one used on a viewing.
At a house with a long drive, provide the gate opening, surface, overhead obstructions and usable turning area. Do not assume that a passenger car’s approach works for a loaded moving vehicle. Identify an authorized alternative and its carrying distance while the estimate can still reflect it.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Confirm parking and public-space use separately
Start with the exact frontage, date, hours, vehicle dimensions and working space. Parking Management handles City parking facilities and refers certain on-street locations, including Chick’s Beach, Croatan neighborhoods and Sandbridge, to Traffic Engineering at 757-385-4131. Parking Management’s number is 757-385-2900.
The residential commercial-vehicle rules include an exception for normal deliveries or provision of services. That does not itself reserve a curb space, authorize overnight storage or allow a blocked sidewalk. The City’s right-of-way application includes parking-pass and traffic-control categories, so have Permits & Inspections classify the actual operation.
Explain the ramp, rear loading space and pedestrian route as well as the vehicle. If signs or a closure are required, confirm the issuer, placement procedure, lead time and charges before arranging them. An ordinary guest parking permit should not be treated as exclusive truck space. See the complete local procedure for the distinction between parking, street use, oversize travel and containers.

Match the materials to the belongings
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Describe fragile kitchenware, framed artwork, lamps, electronics and unusually shaped pieces before choosing the packing scope. Heavy books need manageable small cartons; bulky light contents need different space. Keep original packaging or handling instructions available when they affect an item’s preparation.
Label cartons for the rooms at the receiving home, especially when the new layout differs from the old one. Separate essentials that travel with you: identification, medicines, keys, chargers and the things needed before the shipment is fully placed. Keep these out of the packing area to avoid an unintended transfer.

Build the estimate from the complete scope
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Provide the inventory and the conditions at both addresses together. Stairs, elevator changes, carrying distances, a restricted loading period, packing requirements and an additional stop can affect the work even when the travel distance is modest. Photographs help make those conditions concrete; dimensions are useful for large pieces and narrow turns.
Ask which materials and services are included, which are estimated and which require a separate arrangement. Building charges, parking permissions, storage and specialist work may have different owners. Record the conditions under which an estimate needs to be revised.

Keep pickup and delivery on one current plan
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Confirm when possession begins and ends, who provides access and how a change will be communicated. Keep the current inventory, receiving instructions and contact details together. The building manager, household and moving crew should be working from the same door, floor and loading arrangement.
For an interstate move, use the federal Protect Your Move guidance alongside the estimate and shipment documents. Ask about the applicable delivery arrangements and the choices that need to be made before loading.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Connect the date with the actual conditions
The company’s broader experience with busier month-end and month-start schedules is a planning consideration, not measured Virginia Beach demand or a guaranteed discount on another date. Compare dates that work for possession, the receiving building, household commitments and the shipment.
For a weather-sensitive move, check official alerts and the whole approach at both properties. Know Your Zone identifies evacuation information by street address; it is separate from a property’s flood-zone designation. Agree who can change a plan when official directions or access conditions require it.
Winter still calls for a prepared path. City Code section 33-14 requires the owner or occupant to remove sidewalk snow and ice within six hours after removal can first reasonably be effected. That wording is not a six-hour deadline measured automatically from the last snowfall. Assign the clearing responsibility and inspect steps, entrances and interior floor protection before work begins.
10 /
Keep the route clear and the decisions available
Walk through the inventory and the receiving plan before loading starts. Point out belongings that stay, items with a changed destination and anything needing a condition record. Confirm that keys, approved loading access and any reserved elevator are available for the agreed period.
Disposal is a separate handover task. The City’s bulky-item service requires an advance request; it is not a reason to leave unwanted furniture at the curb without a confirmed arrangement. The municipal disposal facility also restricts vehicles, including cargo and panel vans. Tell us if an item expected to leave through another route is still part of the household when moving day arrives.

11 /
Send the details that make the next step useful
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Send both addresses, your preferred dates, the inventory and the packing, storage or specialist work you need. Include floors, stairs, elevators, carrying distances and photographs of the approaches. Mark any permissions, possession dates or building reservations still being resolved.

Questions before you move
What information should I send for a Virginia Beach moving estimate?
Send both addresses, dates, the inventory and desired services. Include the complete route from the vehicle to the rooms: floors, stairs, elevators, gates, turns and carrying distance. Mark any building or street permissions still unresolved so the estimate does not depend on assumed access.
Can I use a residential parking permit for the moving truck?
A residential permit does not reserve an exclusive loading space. Ask Parking Management or Traffic Engineering about the exact location, and have Permits & Inspections classify any proposed public-space use. Include the vehicle size, working area and dates.
How should I prepare an elevated house or apartment?
Photograph and measure the entire route, including exterior stairs, landings, door openings and elevator changes. Confirm the authorized entrance, building hours and any reservation. Identify an available alternative before the move if a large piece cannot use the normal path.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if the receiving property is not ready?
Discuss storage or a later delivery while a practical option is still available. Confirm access, receiving responsibility, costs and the condition for restarting delivery. Update the agreed plan when possession or a building reservation changes.
Can I leave unwanted furniture for the City on moving day?
Only with the appropriate collection arrangement. Bulky-item collection must be requested in advance, and the City’s published lead-time statements differ. Ask Waste Management for the actual collection date and item preparation; use a confirmed alternative when the property must be empty sooner.
Does choosing a weekday guarantee a lower price?
No. Ask about your actual route, shipment and service requirements. General scheduling experience is not a fixed Virginia Beach price or discount; compare the complete scope and the dates available to your household and receiving property.
